Little Annoyances...
Because it's so easy to complain (and my other blog sites are awfully slow), I thought that I'd create a blog where I could just rant. I'll try not to get too overworked...just a little annoyed :)

Busy, Busy, Busy...
"I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go!..." That's what I've been doing for the past couple of months. Going to work and coming home, day in and day out. It's been a little rough working 45 - 55 hours per week, especially for the 40 hour pay. But it's also been fun. I'm grateful that I enjoy my work.
Over the past couple months, I've learned some new technologies to be able to complete a project at work. These resume building, worth increasing skills include Windows Workflow Foundation and LINQ over Objects. I've really enjoyed learning and using these. And now that I'm almost finished with my project, I get to start teaching other people about them...which means I'll be that much busier. :)
I do get a sense of importance when the other people on my team (who have been there longer than me or have a higher rank than me) ask me questions about how to do things. It makes me feel like I'm worthy of a promotion. And I hope that my boss sees it as much as I do. ;)

The Law...
I think it's really frustrating when I'm driving down the road and the person in front of me slows down seemingly slower than the speed limit. This seems to happen quite regularly. So, I've come up with a theory...(Wait for it....)
They must think I'm a police officer! Here are some possible reasons:
1) I drive a white car. (Could be unmarked, right?)
2) I wear clip on sunglasses that may look like official gear
3) I wear a dark blue wind breaker (again official?)
And lastly, I sing along with my iPod, which may be construed as speaking on a CB!
Ok, maybe a little outrageous. I'll never know the real answer. I guess it's better to laugh at the possiblity and not be frustrated with the situation. I'll just look at them with my glasses pulled down away from my eyes as I go around them.

The Difference...
A good friend pointed out that I'm a little behind on my blogging. And somehow I found my alarm clock set 1 hour ahead this morning. And I just happen to have something to say. All of these things combine to cause me to sit down and publish something. I've been quite busy lately with work. I put it a lot more time than I used to. And when I'm not at work, I'm spending QT with my family (or working on my website...www.ununiqueid.com!) So, I've not had time to do much blogging.
But speaking of work, my company (rather the one I work for) is in the process of consolidating our 3 buildings down to 2. Yesterday, our division's leader starting making new seating assignments. And my supervisor commented that it would not be fun to be in the IT department because they were told to move peoples' offices when they got to work. I started thinking about it and realized a distinction...a division between the two fields of computer careers.
In the past, I've received phone calls from friends and relatives who have some sort of computer problem. People call me because I know computers. But I wouldn't say that I know them like my friend Grant knows them. See, Grant works with the hardware...and I develop software. But for years, people have grouped programmers into their "IT" departments. I've worked for a couple of companies that did just that. And it's hard to do your job (programming) when someone's telling you to do support (hardware).
So, the revelation is that Developers build software. And IT people build (and move) infrastructure. I'm not an IT Professional. I'm an Engineer. I don't dislike IT people. It's just not a career that I'm interested in having. Grant doesn't like programming. To each, his own. Developers and IT teams have to get along. But thankfully, at my current job, I don't have to move peoples' offices. I'd much rather be programming!

Are you LOST...?
I'm so excited that LOST is returning to ABC starting tonight (January 14, 2009) with the 3 hour season finale from Season 4. Season 5 starts next Wednesday. You know where I'll be! Right in front of the TV soaking in every mind twisting moment of my favorite TV show of all time.
I'm looking forward to having the mysteries solved, but I'm not looking forward to the end of the series, which will only have 6 seasons. Tonight, the island will be moved and the Oceanic Six will be saved and (try to) return to their lives pre-Oceanic 815. I can't wait to see where the island ends up and what happens to all of the survivors still on it, as well as the six.
The writers have created new mysteries for us to solve (and I wouldn't be surprised if they continue to do so right up until the very end of the series!) Questions like "Why do they all have to return to the island?" and "What happened to John Locke?" whirl in my mind. I'm so excited to see the revelations and watch as the show continues to intrigue (and sometimes confuse) me.
So, let's get LOST together...and enjoy the dark clouds of mystery that appear!

Happy New Year!
It seems kind of trite to make New Year's resolutions...because you can resolve to change any day of the year. However, as the Eve turned into the new year, I found myself deciding on certain things to change. It was almost like an instinct took over as I began evaluating the previous year. I became resolute and had a stronger desire to do better, to change parts of my life and be stronger this year.
While thinking of these areas to improve, I kept thinking about something my best friend Brent told me a long time ago...A goal unwritten is just a dream. So my first "resolution" is to get these things on paper where I can look at them frequently.
In addition, I'm reminded of Benjamin Franklin, who kept a book of virtues and graded his own change over time. Ever since I learned of it, I've thought it was a wonderful idea. But I've never attempted it successfully. Of course, in order for me to do it my way, I'd have to write a program to keep track of my progress! I'll have to think more about that one.
Well, I hope you have a Happy New Year. I also hope you can make change for the better in your life as you see necessary. Don't quit. And if you slip...(we all do)...pick yourself back up and resolve to get back on track. Keep going and you'll reach your goal. You can do it!
